- Whatever the Question, Intrapreneurship is the Answer
-
Intrapreneurs are people who anchor their work practice in innovation. They are often promoted and rewarded for their knack for good ideas. So how exactly do they stand out in the workplace? What makes them different from others? Here is my list of three ways intrapreneurs stand out in the workplace.
1. Be ahead of the curve
Intrapreneurs are well read and up to date. As such, they are always bringing a new, fresh perspective to the room. Whenever there’s a new trend and interesting caveat, Intrapreneurs are usually the ones who’ve thought it through and can bring it to the fore. How is this possible? Reading. Specifically, reading diverse sets of information that challenge their own thinking and predispositions. How can you stay ahead of the curve? Sign up for newsletters that come to your inbox on a daily or weekly basis. Set aside time in your day to read and digest the information. Use that information to strike up conversations with your colleagues to gain their perspective on the matter.
2. Experiment with work products
You’ve been asked to write an email to the whole company announcing a major outcome. How do you do it? Standard font with text? Use Mailchimp or Canva to create a memorable email header? Create a video that sets a PowerPoint to some dope music? Often times, we do things the way everyone is doing them because we assume that’s how they have to be done. But Intrapreneurs buck status quo by finding fun, creative ways to get everyday, mundane tasks done. Next time you’re asked to do something that everyone does, do a quick google to see how others around the world are doing it. You’d be surprised at the interesting ways in which others are bringing a creative flair into the workplace, and you’ll be sure to create something memorable for others to emulate.
3. Always deliver your best
This is a no brainer. In order to stand out, you want to have the reputation of someone that is always producing a high quality work product. But how do you know it’s the best? You have to be iterative. Intrapreneurs are not afraid to do rapid testing of their solutions. They vet it with colleagues. They search for alternative models. They try it out on a small subset of people. They are willing to experiment until they have something high caliber to present.
Which of these three are you already doing really well and which one would you like to step up a bit more? Tell me in the comment
